Eyelid Correction Surgery
Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is the aesthetic surgery of the eyelids. It corrects the excess skin and fat pockets that, over the years, make the eyes look tired, heavy or sad. It can be performed on the upper eyelids, the lower eyelids or both.
On the upper eyelid, excess skin can reach the eyelashes and, in some cases, limit the field of vision. On the lower eyelid, the most frequent problem is bags and marked dark circles. The goal is a more rested, natural look, without changing the expression of the face.
The incisions are hidden in the natural crease of the upper eyelid or just below the lashes on the lower eyelid, and the scar is barely visible. At the consultation, the surgeon analyses the eyelids, the quality of the skin and the position of the eyebrows (sometimes it makes sense to combine a brow lift) and explains what can be improved in your case.

Having a Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty takes about an hour on average and is performed under general anaesthesia or sedation, depending on the case and the patient’s preference. In most situations it is a day-case surgery: the patient goes home the same day. When combined with other facial procedures, an overnight stay may be needed.
The incisions are placed in the natural creases of the eyelids or, on the lower eyelid, inside the conjunctiva, so that the scars are discreet. Through them, Prof. Dr. Miguel Gonçalves Ferreira removes excess skin and repositions or removes the fat pockets, giving the eyes a more rested, natural appearance without changing the expression of the face.

Blepharoplasty recovery
In the first few days it is normal for the eyelids to be swollen and somewhat bruised. Cold compresses with saline help. We recommend sleeping on your back with your head raised and wearing dark sunglasses when you go out.
The discomfort is mild and is controlled with paracetamol. As a rule, 8 to 15 days of relative rest are needed, during which you can work from home, without much exertion.
