What a lip lift is
A lip lift, or upper lip elevation, is a surgery that reduces the distance between the base of the nose and the lip. The lip becomes shorter, more defined and with more visible volume, and the upper teeth show a little more when smiling, as in a youthful face.
Many people come to the consultation after years of hyaluronic acid fillers that have not solved the problem, because the issue is not a lack of volume but the length of the lip. In those cases, a lip lift gives a more natural, permanent result.

The technique: a scar hidden at the base of the nose
The incision is made at the base of the nose, in a natural crease, in a “gull wing” shape. The surgeon removes a small strip of skin and raises the lip, closing the skin without tension. This allows a fine, hidden scar, which becomes practically imperceptible over time, and prevents the nostrils from widening.
The surgery is performed under general anaesthesia or sedation, in hospital, in the Porto area, and takes about 30 minutes. At the consultation, the facial simulation helps define how much to shorten the lip for a balanced result.
