Brow lift at Clínica do Nariz e Face

What a brow lift is

A brow lift, also called an eyebrow lift or forehead lift, is the surgery that raises the eyebrows and the forehead when they descend with age. By lifting the eyebrow back to its natural position, the eyes look more open and the forehead smoother, without changing the expression of the person operated on.

At Clínica do Nariz e Face, the brow lift is performed by Prof. Dr. Miguel Gonçalves Ferreira, a facial plastic surgeon who performs this surgery regularly, often together with blepharoplasty to treat the whole upper third of the face.

Who it is for

When the eyebrow drops, the face looks tired, sad or even angry, even when you are not. It also pushes skin down over the eyelids, which many people mistake for excess eyelid skin. A brow lift is indicated for anyone with:

  • drooping eyebrows, especially at the outer end;
  • marked horizontal wrinkles on the forehead;
  • a feeling of heaviness in the eyes;
  • excess skin on the upper eyelids caused by the descent of the eyebrow.

How it is done: endoscopic brow lift

The most widely used technique is the endoscopic brow lift: through small incisions hidden in the scalp, the surgeon uses a camera to release and reposition the tissues of the forehead and fix them in their new position. The scars are hidden in the hair and recovery is faster.

In some cases, especially with very high foreheads or little hair, an incision can be made along the hairline, which allows the eyebrow to be raised and, at the same time, the forehead to be shortened. The technique is chosen at the consultation, according to each person’s anatomy.

What you can expect

  • More open, rested eyes, with the eyebrow in its natural position.
  • A smoother forehead, with fewer horizontal wrinkles.
  • Lighter upper eyelids, sometimes without the need for blepharoplasty.
  • A natural result, without the “surprised” look of an exaggerated lift.

Recovery

In the first few days it is normal to have swelling and some bruising on the forehead and around the eyes. The discomfort is mild. Most people return to work after 6 to 10 days and resume light exercise after 2 weeks. The result becomes more natural over the following weeks, as the swelling disappears.

Consultation

At the consultation, the surgeon assesses the position of the eyebrows, the forehead and the eyelids and explains whether a brow lift, a blepharoplasty or both is the best option. The consultation can take place at our Porto or Bragapractice, and the surgery is performed in hospital, in the Porto area. See other facial treatments e book your consultation.
